The cat litter business is about a $1.2 billion dollar industry with multiple types of products from “dust-free” to “clumping” dominating regional markets and few national products dominating the nation. Why no national dominant brand? Because it’s literally dirt in a bag, a box, or a plastic carton. And because it is basically a dead-weight product, it faces similar problems to shipping bottled water from one bottling plant to every store in the country, the cost are prohibitive.
To help introduce the new “clumping” formula cat litter from Jonny Cat, we created a monthly series of full-page, full-color, newspaper coupon ads to help drive traffic to retail stores as well as tell the story behind the new Scoop Formula litter.
The first two ads in the series of retail newspaper concepts was to break the consumer notion that “clumping” cat litter only came in plastic jugs.

Hello there. I have three cats and have had them using Jonny Cat forever! I actually live in Santa Barbara where it all started and remember the trade ad you’ve posted. Very, very cute! Thank you for sharing.

To be honest with you, I do not like your retail print ads for this client. You have done much better for other clients. What happened here? Did the client help — lol!

What happen to Jonny Cat? They were so big in California and then they seem to get smaller and smaller until they were gone from the store I shopped at. Didn’t people like the product?
